The days are shorter and colder as we change the seasons and more than a few holiday events are coming back! We are excited to bring you the details on some of Lynn Valley’s favourite traditions.

Lynn Valley Christmas Market

The Lynn Valley PAC once again presents The Lynn Valley Christmas Market Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The now annual market will feature 40 professional artisans selling amazing hand-crafted goods including soaps, jams, artwork, jewellery, gourmet food, children’s items, knitting, and much more. Our junior vendor tables will showcase a small number of students selling their own items. There will also be raffle baskets and a delicious Bake Shop where you can purchase your holiday baking.

Waldorf Children’s Winter Fair

The neighbourhood favourite Waldorf Children’s Winter Fair is back – for its 49th year! The students and parents open the doors to the school Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. with curated vendors, activities and interactive experiences for children to welcome the coming of winter and the holiday season.

“Our fair is a treasured gift from our wonderfully talented parents and guardians to our students, friends and neighbours,” said Mary Henley, community and resource development manager for The Vancouver Waldorf School. “Because Waldorf education nurtures a deep connection with the natural world, creative and practical arts and reverence for childhood, guests at the fair can expect a lovely variety of activities to participate in and an incredibly beautiful assortment of hand-crafted goods to browse in our marketplace”

The night before a the school will host its Winter Fair Night Market, Nov. 22 from 6:30-9 p.m. This evening is for adults offering a  a chance to socialize and shop away from the gaze of children’s eyes. None of the classroom activities are open during the Night Market and some classes may still be setting up their activities while the Night Market is running. The focus of the Night Market really is for adults to come together and enjoy the beauty of the Fair at a slightly more relaxed pace. The school’s shop the Red Door Store will also be open during the evening event and fair. The school is located at 2725 St Christophers Road and more details can be found on its website.

The Parade of Trees

A fantastic community tradition is back for this year. The Lynn Valley Community Association is busy planning its 2019 Annual Parade of Trees.

For the past nine years, the LVCA has worked to bring people, families, businesses and schools, places of worship, associations and organizations together at the LVCA Christmas Parade of Trees. During the month of December, this tradition sees Lynn Valley Village transformed into a magical forest of creatively decorated Christmas trees.

Sponsoring a tree is a perfect opportunity to promote your business and/or organization, and at the same time, support families in need and help to build a stronger community here in Lynn Valley. Past sponsors of this event understand the value of participating. We would love to include you in the festivities and have you become a tree sponsor in 2019. Did you know $50 from each sponsored tree will be donated to North Shore Disability Resource Centre’s Mobile Multi Sensory therapeutic van; the first in Canada; with remaining net proceeds going to support the continuing work of LVCA; such as the Speaker Series, trail improvement projects and community events. It’s all about community! Registration details can be found here.

Tree decorating is Friday, Nov. 29th or Saturday, Nov. 30th with the Grand Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 1st.
