Enter our Parent-Child Valentine’s Day dinner contest!

Valentine’s Day isn’t just red roses and romance – it’s a chance to celebrate wonderful relationships of all sorts, whether it’s with friends, neighbours, or even co-workers (you know, the ones who bring in pink Rice Krispie squares or Purdy’s for all on February 14… we love them!)

So in honour of St. Valentine’s Day on Sunday, February 14, we’re going to send a Daddy and Daughter, or a Mother and Son, to Browns Socialhouse for a sit-down dinner and some quality time together.

Brush up on voter basics at Democracy Cafe!

We have all, at times, been guilty of taking our democratic system for granted. Many citizens even forego their chance to vote, despite the fact that casting a ballot is a privilege denied to many in this world. But more and more “ordinary Joes” (and Jills) have been taking increased notice of our country’s governmental processes in past months, and the upcoming federal election is likely to bring out many people who have otherwise stayed distant from the fray.

The Lynn Valley Library is hosting a Democracy Cafe that will help all of us – newcomers, old hands, super-engaged citizens or those just beginning to show their interest – strengthen our knowledge of how government and elections work, democratic values and current election issues, and overcoming voter apathy.

The discussion is, of course, non-partisan, but is sure to be lively and engaging nonetheless!

If you have a first-time voter at home, attending Democracy Cafe together
The Cafes, held in partnership with North Shore Community Resources and other organizations, will be held Wednesday evenings in Lynn Valley, beginning September 23:will provide an excellent launching point for some follow-up dinnertime conversation.

Public hearing on LV mall redevelopment April 15

After many years of consultation and re-consultation, design and re-design, and the approval of a new Official Community Plan, Bosa Developments’ proposed redevelopment of Lynn Valley Mall is going to public hearing on Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in North Vancouver District Hall council chambers.

For a great brochure about the evening event, which includes information for speaking, submitting a comment in advance, or live-streaming the hearing that night at www.dnv.org/watchlive, click here.

Business booming for sponsoring realtors

Every so often, LynnValleyLife likes to take the time to thank our sponsoring realtors, Jim Lanctôt and Kelly Gardiner of RE/MAX Crest. Without their willingness to plunge feet-first into the community project that is LynnValleyLife, we wouldn’t have a website to be writing this upon!

Of course, much of the thanks also goes to you. With all your clicks, your ‘thumbs-ups’ and your participation in our various community campaigns, we have together managed to build a Network of about 1,500 local residents. So when our sponsors call on your help for a client, there’s usually someone out there who can deliver!

When Jim and Kelly are trying to find a particular type of property for a client, pushing out a description on our various news and social media channels almost always elicits some great leads. And when they are trying to find a buyer for one of their current listings, those same contacts and channels help maximize the opportunity for a quick sale.

In fact, Jim and Kelly have sold four properties in this past week alone – and most of them weren’t on the market for more than a day or two!

So thanks to them, and thanks to you, LynnValleyLife.com continues to be a virtual water cooler, around which we can share the news of the neighbourhood. We’ve created some fun community initiatives, such as our Good Neighbour Award and Project Sunflower, and we’ve enjoyed the new friends and neighbours we’ve met along the way. If you’d like help promoting any of your local events or projects, please let us know! We’d love to help you spread the word.
