The Province of British Columbia has introduced legislation requiring municipalities to increase housing supply more quickly. As a result, the District must update its Official Community Plan (OCP) to accommodate 22,369 new homes by 2041, representing its 20-year housing target. This marks a significant shift in how housing has been planned and must be completed by December 31, 2025.
Official Community Plan Update
Following community engagement in the spring, Council is now presenting two land-use planning approaches for public input:
Option A – Add Housing Diversity in Key Areas:
Increase housing types and density in major town and village centres, along key corridors, and in some single-family neighbourhoods through new land use and zoning. (Formerly called the “Refined scenario.”)Option B – No Change:
Maintain current housing growth plans as outlined in the existing OCP, focusing on key centres without expanding housing diversity elsewhere. For Lynn Valley in particular, this planning presents details on expansions to boundaries and multiplex housing neighbourhoods to create new opportunities for housing, amenities, and services.
