While remembrance remains central to the Legion's work, Branch 114 is much more than a place for veterans to gather. Throughout the year, the branch hosts live music, bingo, meat draws, sports screenings, workshops and speaker events. These activities bring neighbours together and give younger residents opportunities to become involved.
Its November calendar includes a Christmas craft fair, line dancing, live entertainment and a speaker presentation on 100 years of mountain rescue on the North Shore. On November 22, the branch will also host a Poppy Volunteer Appreciation Event to recognize those who contributed to this year's campaign.
The Legion describes its work through three pillars: Remember, Join and Give. These principles reflect its commitment to honouring veterans, encouraging membership and supporting the wider community. Its role has changed over the decades. Once associated primarily with veterans, the Legion now welcomes people who have served, those who wish to support veterans and residents simply looking for friendship and connection.
This approach helps keep Branch 114 connected to Lynn Valley's changing community while maintaining its long-standing traditions. The branch's Remembrance Day gathering is scheduled for November 11, beginning at 10:50 a.m. until 8 p.m. For Lynn Valley residents, the occasion offers a chance to honour those who served and recognize the volunteers who continue supporting veterans today.
Residents interested in volunteering for the Poppy Campaign can contact [email protected]. Donations can also be made through the Lynn Valley Legion's website.
As Branch 114 approaches another Remembrance Day, its message remains centred on remembrance, service and community participation. Nearly a century after opening in Lynn Valley, the Legion continues to bring neighbours together, both on November 11 and throughout the year.
