A press release from the North Vancouver Museum & Archives:
North Vancouver has undergone many changes in recent years. We see this in changing skylines, advertisements about new businesses and festivals, and in the diversity of people now residing within our community.
It is important to recognise and document the multicultural history of our dynamic community. This is being done through the Diversifying History Project, a North Vancouver Museum & Archives’ oral history initiative which documents the arrival stories of new Canadians.
The display, Sharing Our Stories, features reminiscences shared by some Canadian Iranian North Shore residents about why they chose to live here, and about their experiences creating new lives and memories on the North Shore.
This project which was organized with the support of the NVMA’s Iranian Canadian Advisory Committee, is but the beginning of an ongoing program (the Diversifying History Project) to collect the stories of our residents. Committee members are also associated with the Canadian Iranian Foundation, the North Shore Multicultural Society, North Vancouver City Library and the Department of History, SFU.
Sharing Our Stories runs from October 25, 2014 to March 28, 2015 at the Community History Centre, 3203 Institute Road, in Lynn Valley. Open Hours are: Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5 pm. Visit www.nvma.ca for more information.
