Lynn Valley LINK trail becomes a reality

The hard work of Lynn Valley Community Association volunteers and district parks staff – and the leadership of local residents Suzanne and Gabriel Mazoret – was celebrated at Lynn Canyon on September 16 with the grand opening of the Lynn Valley LINK trail.

The trail links previously existing trail networks such as the Baden-Powell, Princess Park, Lynn Canyon, Inter-River and Kirkstone Park paths to create a pedestrian route that circumnavigates Lynn Valley. New Lynn Valley LINK information kiosks are up and running at the five trailheads that offer parking facilities – Lynn Canyon Park, Inter River Park, Kirkstone Park, Princess Park, and the Fromme Mountain lot at the top of Mountain Highway. Along with the LINK map, each kiosk features historical information and photos specific to the immediate area.

Great fall programs at Mollie Nye House and elsewhere!

That “back-to-school” feeling that comes over us in September isn’t just for the young ‘uns. There’s a huge range of community programs designed for adults of all ages and stages, so why not sharpen your pencil (or pick up your yoga mat, or harmonica, or smart phone) and join in?

Mollie Nye House on Lynn Valley Road is home to a variety of popular courses, both registered and drop-in. Operations Manager Celeste Whittaker is putting out the call to let Lynn Valley residents know that new beginner and intermediate classes in tai chi/qi gong and English-language training are starting, as is the popular Better Balance with Surefeet program. For information on these and other registered programs at Mollie Nye House, click here.

North Van Museum wants YOU!

As you are probably already aware, the historic Lynn Valley Elementary School building was preserved and transformed into the North Vancouver Community History Centre, part of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives. The Community History Centre currently has a Canada 150 display, and its second-floor archives are open to the public from Thursday through Saturday (other times by appointment); it’s well worth a visit to look through our community’s collective “photo albums.”

Traffic detours coming to Mountain & Frederick

Summertime means street work! Starting on June 28 and running right through to August 20, the District will be installing a new watermain and services on Mountain Hwy just south of Frederick Road.

Excavating will be done of the street, boulevard and some driveways, with re-seeding and restoration scheduled for the end of the project.

The road will be closed at the Frederick/Mountain Hwy intersection from 7am-5pm Monday through Fridays, with southbound traffic being diverted along Frederick Road. Northbound traffic will be able to proceed through the Lynn Valley/Mountain Hwy intersection, with a single lane being kept open throughout the construction period.

Nourish Market opens nice noshery

IMG_9366There’s a new place to sit and enjoy the Lynn Valley village vibes, and enjoy a healthy bite or sip while you’re at it. Nourish Market has transformed one end of its boutique grocery store into an airy eating spot, where you can take a load off and catch up on the local news.

We suspect, however, that there will be lots of “take away” from its new ice cream counter, from which various Mario’s Gelati or (soon) Earnest ice cream flavours are served, starting at $4 for a single scoop. The variety of food choices is also good, including Peqish salads and sandwiches and treats from the Two Daughters Bakeshop in North Vancouver. There are a a range of natural and gluten-free choices to keep everyone in your party happy, and the prices are reasonable.

Remember watering restrictions when sunny weather comes

Water restrictions probably haven’t been top of mind for most Lynn Valleyites, seeing as Mother Nature has been abundantly generous with water herself. But now that sunny weather is upon us, here’s a reminder of our water-conservation responsibilities. Phase One lawn sprinkling restrictions  are currently in force:

Lawn sprinkling are restricted to three periods a week, mornings only. Outdoor sprinkling of lawns, using hose-connected or automatic in-ground sprinklers, will be permitted only as follows:

We are as pleased as punch to be a main sponsor again this year, and we thank all the other citizens, businesses and organizations who have banded together to pull off this major event.
