Temporary Closure to Lynn Headwaters Access Road

In the interest of public safety, the District of North Vancouver has closed its access road to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park at the top of Lynn Valley Road to vehicles, effective immediately.

The road, which cuts through steeply sloped terrain, has deteriorated to the extent that portions of the road are at risk of failure, which could result in landslide. At this time, the closure applies to vehicles only; pedestrian and bicycle access is still permitted. Pedestrians may also access the park from Lynn Valley Road via the Varley Trail.

There are no homes located below the section of road that is most at risk.

Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is owned and operated by Metro Vancouver. The access road in question is a 700 metre stretch of road managed by the District of North Vancouver. The District is working with Metro Vancouver on a long-term solution since regular maintenance is no longer sufficient to keep the road in safe operating condition. Major mitigation work is needed to stabilize the slope below the road and immediate closure is necessary until a long-term plan to fix the road can be identified.

The District of North Vancouver is implementing temporary, time-limited parking on adjacent streets to ensure adequate parking for area residents.

New parking restrictions for the area can be seen on this NVD website post.
